New information on acupuncture and treating depression

Acupuncture is an ancient healing art with over 3500 years of empirical recordvalidating its efficacy. Considered very conservative, acupuncture treats all forms of illness and is very beneficial in assisting one's recovery to harmony.Today there are two leading theories explaining how acupuncture works. Western science looks to Melzack and Wall'sneurological explanation that supposes acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins and enkephalins (the bodies natural painkillers.) Eastern scienceunderstands the universe differently, supposing that everything can be understood in two kinds of energy. Named yin and yang, the energies give relative value to "Qi" (chee) or "Life Force Energy" that runs throughout the body. Since the ancient healers 5,000 years ago didn't have the crutch of technology and blood screens, they developed the most logical method of complete assessment available at that time in history (or should I say herstory). They used their sense of listening to patients complaints, they felt the discomforted areas of the body, and inspected every other important aspect of their being. Such unattractive aspects like one's excreta, dietary habits, the tongue, and they even began discerning many different qualities of one's pulse.

In just the last century, a mere 100 years, man's technologic advancement has brought about a rate of species extinction unequaled since the time of the dinosaur'sdemise. This fact is absolutely remarkable to me, as we witness daily the collectiveagreement that that is the price for civilization! I am optimistic, becausethe light is at the end of the tunnel, commonly seen in the spending of Billionsof DOLLARS on alternative forms of health and wellness care. It seems equallyamazing to me that the simple approach of stimulating points on the human body can restore the body's natural ability tocorrect the imbalances that stress and/or trauma have brought about. In fact, today's scientific validity for acupuncture comes from the studies with animals, since it is theorized that the placebo effect can be ruled out in animals. Traditional Chinese Medicine utilizes many techniques to restore harmony to one's system. In acupuncture, needles are painlessly inserted into various parts of one's body to correct Qi flow. Herbal prescriptions are also recommended to a patient, along with homework assignments, like lifestyle modifications to include breathing exercise, increased pure water consumption, and improved stress reduction methods.
