| During my visit I officially
studied Tui Na, Pointing Therapy and Qi Gong. Sound foreign? Tui Na is Chinese
medical massage. Similar to Shiatsu (a Japanese 'finger-pressure' healing art,) it works
the same channels of energy flow that run throughout the body, yet in a much more vigorous
fashion. Here I found balance in my practice between the more yin natured shiatsu
therapy, with the predominately yang style of Tui Na medical massage. Seeking to make the most of every opportunity in China, I practiced my acupuncture in the clinic, receptive of critiques to improve my style. |

After the first week, my colleagues
from Guangzhou invited me to show them my specialty of chiropractic manipulation.
Here, I am set up to deliver a left upper sacroiliac adjustment. Tui Na therapy is very similar to Chiropractic, utilizing the same orthopedic, neurologic and imaging diagnostic protocols as do the professional health care providers in the states. Better than 50% of the patients reporting to the hospital for treatment had their CT radiology reports in hand, for the attending physician to read from and proceed with care. |
