Dr. Kent Christianson from Holistic Chiropractic
Presents:
Self Shiatsu and other Stress Relievers

I. Introduction of Dr. Kent:

Chiropractic Physician, Shiatsu Therapist, Acupuncturist, and nutritional counselor. Practicing in Naperville, Dr. Christianson provides great care and encourages his patients to adopt lifestyle changes that will support their care.

Such changes include exercise, dietary considerations, vitamin and herbal supplementation, as well as, more affirming positive mental attitudes.

Stresses - good vs. bad; weddings or childbirth vs. funerals or divorce.

Shiatsu - What is it, and how it can help? It is the skillful art of assessing another's condition and applying compassionate energetic touch to restore optimal expression of one's self.

Dietary considerations about stress include "Chemical" considerations that can enhance our daily activities, or are detrimental to accomplishing our tasks. i.e.; Coffee & doughnuts vs. whole grain cereals with juice; regular exercise, healthful diet with proper supplementation or, waiting for what seems to be the inevitable and unnecessary, "need of heroic measures"; surgeries to cut out the problem, and maybe the solution.

Excellent Opportunities for Change:

II. Self- Shiatsu techniques - (Hands and fingers required)

Breathing - It makes the biggest difference in your life, start today!
Do deep breathing exercises at your desk and everywhere else, just pick a place, anywhere you can think of, don't underestimate your opportunities in this existence.

III. Exercise - Best stress relief known. How much is enough?

Positive Effects: Endorphin release

What kind is best? The kind YOU DO, of course.

IV. Dietary Considerations

Food Pyramid - What are the considerations?
Myths about FAT
a. Good vs. Bad FATS - Cis vs. Trans fatty acids
b. How much is enough? --Optimal range is between 20-30%
c. Why FAT at all? ---Pure energy, excellent fuel for everything our organism accomplishes. Balanced with 25-35% protein and 35-45% CHO's, people have ingredients in the right proportions for sustaining life. But what defines the quality of Life?
d. Saturated vs. Unsaturated fat - Unsaturated fats don't raise serum Cholesterol.
e. Fact: A Low to No Cholesterol Diet can cause high blood cholesterol levels.

f. Other facts - quoted from New England Journal of Medicine, 1994, 331, No. 25, pgs 1675-1678.
One Acetaminophen (Tylenol) every four days, increases one's risk of kidney disease 2.4x's.
One Ibuprofen (Motrin & Advil) every four days increases one's risk of kidney disease 8.8x's.

V. Conclusion - What does this mean? Some of the things you learned, are WRONG.
Make better decisions for yourself. Trust your "Gut Instinct."
